the new adventures of old lane.

It’s now been 30 days since I last did anything musical. In fact, I’ve forgotten to pick up my horns from being repaired in the shop.

In addition to having quality time with friends and family (and our grandson!), I’ve had the chance to try some new things, one of which I NEVER thought I’d do, let alone enjoy.

Doing the two step.

I went country line dancing and two-stepping, and it was a LOT of fun! There was the fear of the unknown beforehand…..but once I started with the basic steps, I found it to be very enjoyable, and a fun way to get some exercise!

My golf game is a work in progress…I’m not ready to compete in a tournament by any stretch of the imagination, but learning about the nuances of the game has been very enlightening. I recently had the chance to go “golfing” at Nationals Park – they had 9 platforms set up throughout stands in the ball park, and the goal was to shoot at different flags set up on the field. It was challenging, but it was awesome!

Teeing off at the ball park.

I was lucky enough to see two fantastic plays (one professional, one community theater) this past weekend, and it was a joy to feel entertained compared to the grind of entertaining. Both plays were phenomenal, and the talents of all of the actors were off the charts!

Who knows what the future holds? There are so many things to do around DC, which I’ve really never taken the time to appreciate. The museums….the culture…the activities that take place throughout the communities and the region. I see these things advertised, and I hear about them through word of mouth – it’s time to experience them.

I’ve had quite a few people tell me that “You’ll be back to playing music before you know it”….I can’t even visualize performing music right now – and that’s a good thing.

Let the new adventures begin.
